family holiday for loving bonds

I believe family holidays can play a major role in maintaining close and loving bonds between all family members. These bonds are for life and should be cherished and nurtured. Therefore planning a family holiday is an important task.

And it can also be challenging, especially when your children are young. And what about the differences between each individual child?

How do you keep everybody happy,  when their needs and wishes seem almost impossible to pair? And how about your own needs and desires for a relaxed and inspiring holiday?

I know how to navigate a family in a bustling, vibrant city like Amsterdam. I grew up here and I raised my daughters here.
As a guide, I have opened up the history of this city to hundreds of schoolchildren in museums.

As a seasoned private guide I have developed (and keep developing) family friendly programs for all different age groups.

As your private guide, I would help you create an itinerary that fits just right for your family. Therefore I work a little different than your average private guide, who pops up at the start of a tour. Let me explain my method to you:

my method

Step 1: Get acquainted (free)
On this website you can browse at will to get to know me a little better. I have years of experience as a family-friendly private guide, I know how to get this job done professionally. But it will be much more fun if we have a click!

Whenever you are ready, simply write me an email, indicating your traveling plans, wishes and needs. Once we have established rates and availability, we’ll schedule a free-of-charge video call. The goal of this video call is twofold. One, you can reassure yourself that my services as a private guide/companion will be a valuable addition to your family trip. Second, with the information that we shared during this video-meet-up, I’ll create a complementary itinerary advice with you.

Step 2: Itinerary advice (free)
Within two weeks after our video-call I aim to send you the first draft of my free-of-charge itinerary advice for your stay in Amsterdam. Based on your feedback, I’ll rework it. My goal is to make an itinerary that reflects your family’s wishes and needs, so nothing will be standard about it. I offer my knowledge about the specificities of Amsterdam (and beyond), I can scout and extent where needed. We’ll work on this itinerary till it fits your family like a glove.

Step 3: Booking
Based on this itinerary you decide for which parts you would like to book me as your private guide. This can range from a simple 2-hour tour to a full-time commitment as a family-companion for all the days of your itinerary.

Although the complementary itinerary is just an advice, you can also let me handle (parts of) the booking that is involved in this itinerary. Any aspect of your stay, from the moment you arrive here, can also be handled by me (hotel, transfers, tickets, spa-treatments, nanny, photographer, workshops etc.). Full transparency: I charge a small fee for this service (15%), which enables me to cherry pick independently.

The booking is confirmed by paying 2-hours guiding tariff, plus 100% of the costs involving third parties (see Terms and Conditions)

Step 4: Guiding
A week before you arrive in Amsterdam, I will send you a reminder of the itinerary and clear description of our first rendezvous point. During the tours that you booked with me, I will share my knowledge, anecdotes and insights in a lively and engaging fashion (I know no other way). But most of all, I will guard the wellbeing of all your family members, especially the young ones. Because I believe that a relaxed, aimable atmosphere is key to creating life-lasting memories of that precious time you got to spend close together as a family. And that is what holidays are supposed to be!

Our family of 6 had a fabulous tour first of the Van Gogh Museum and then the Rijksmuseum with Hanneke. (…) Hanneke could connect with both my 6 and 16 year old. I cannot recommend her enough!
